Swisscom names new network and infrastructure chief

Christoph Aeschlimann

Swisscom has named Christoph Aeschlimann as head of IT, network and infrastructure, replacing Heinz Herren.

Aeschlimann will take up his post on February 1 next year, with Herren reducing his working hours to focus on strategic projects and other tasks both inside and outside the company.

Herren will also take up additional board responsibilities. Aeschlimann is currently CEO of software engineering company ERNI.

“Christoph Aeschlimann has not only extensive digitisation expertise and broad-based technical knowledge, but also a very comprehensive understanding of customer needs and the ability to anticipate market developments,” said Swisscom CEO Urs Schaeppi.

Schaeppi said that Herren, who has served with Swisscom for 17 years, had, along with his team, “ensured that Swisscom’s customers have access to Switzerland’s best mobile and fixed networks” and had helped Swisscom to develop “innovative cloud and digitisation platforms that will form the basis for its success in an increasingly digitised world”.
