Mediaset launches new Play service

Mediaset has re-launched Mediaset Play, formerly its on-demand service but now a new multiscreen streaming service combining live channels with catch-up and on-demand content.

The Italian broadcaster debuted the new service at a presentation of its autumn schedule in Monte Carlo. Mediaset Play will be available for iOS and Android devices, on the web and via smart TVs.

Mediaset had already launched its Play app on TV in time for the football World Cup to a limited base of HbbTV devices, but it is now being launched on multiple devices.

The app includes access to linear transmissions of channels Canale 5, Rete 4, Italia 2, Focus and TGCom24 and startover TV, alongside access to an expanded range of catch-up and on-demand content.

The service includes advertising insertion in mid-programme streams as well as pre-roll advertising, with plans to make advertising a more targeted and personalised experience in the future.

Users will be required to register to view live and restart programming.
