OTT TV service Viu strikes deal for local content in Thailand

PCCW Media Group-owned Asian OTT TV service Viu has struck a deal with leading Thai entertainment company GMM Channel to bring local content to its platform.

The deal will see Viu add up to 200 hours of selected premium content from GMM25 under GMM Channel for Viu audience in Thailand,

Viu will be the only OTT TV platform to make selected premium GMM25 programmes available on-demand for the first 30 days after their local TV airing and online simulcast.

GMM25 content to be made available to Viu subscribers in Thailand includes the Love Song Love Series, police procedural The Crime and variety show Club Friday Show.

Viu operates a freemium model, making content available free-of-charge with advertising while offering additional channels to premium subscribers.

Viu launched in Thailand last May, offering a mix of dramas and variety shows from Korea and Japan with Thai subtitles via its mobile app and website. The service is also available in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
