CNN has launched its virtual reality news app, CNNVR, on Oculus Rift headsets, promising users a deeper sense of ‘connectedness’ with the news.
The app was created in partnership with visual development and experience company Magnopus and offers breaking news video in a VR environment, as well as immersive 360° video.
CNN said the app launches with more than 100 virtual reality stories from dozens of countries, all delivered in 4K resolution with encoding by Pixvana.
CNN first launched CNNVR, its immersive journalism unit and virtual reality platform, last March, initially making 360° video content available on CNN’s iOS and Android Apps.
