Facebook launches Creator App for video makers

Facebook has launched a new app designed to make it easy for users to create original video, go live, and connect with their community on the social network.

FB_creator-appFacebook is billing Facebook Creator as a “one stop shop for creators of all kinds”. The app available globally on iOS with an Android version due to follow in the coming months.

Features of the app include a ‘live creative kit’ that lets users add intros and outros to their live broadcasts, graphic frames to create a “consistent brand”, and camera effects.

A community tab lets users connect with fans and collaborators via an inbox that collates comments from Facebook and Instagram and messages from Facebook Messenger.

Insights give users metrics about their content – including analytics about their page, videos and fans – and app users can also cross-post their content to other platforms.

“If you’re a creator making a show for Watch, you can also log into the app as your Show Page to access the features above. We’re currently testing shows with a set of creators and plan to roll out more broadly in the future,” said Chris Hatfield, Facebook product manager, video.

At the same time Facebook has launched a Facebook for Creators website to give content makers resources and tips on how to “create great videos, connect with fans, and grow on Facebook”.

“We are excited to see how creators use these tools to share video, interact with their followers, and grow their community on Facebook,” said Hatfield. “We are just getting started, and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with creators to make their experience on Facebook even better.”

Facebook launched Watch in August as a new platform for episodic programmes, marking a bigger push into original video. At the time Facebook said that Watch will initially roll out to a limited group of users in the US before becoming more widely available.
