Liberty Global launches ‘converged connectivity’ app

Liberty_Global_Connect App (all)Liberty Global is launching a ‘converged connectivity’ app that it says will enable users to check their mobile usage, monitor devices connected to their home WiFi network and connect automatically to about 10 million WiFi hotspots internationally.

The Connect App, which is available to subscribers at no extra cost and has already been made available to UPC customers in Switzerland and Austria, will roll out to customers in other Liberty Global markets early next year, according to the company.

The app is a companion service to Liberty Global’s Connect Box, the advanced router that has to date been rolled out to over five million homes. Liberty’s Connect Box ecosystem includes the box, Connect Boosters to extend the reach of WiFi signals, and now the app.

Liberty Global says the app is its first to offer customers seamless access to WiFi both in and out of the home within the same interface.

Features for in-home use include the ability for customers to scan for the strongest WiFi signal or ‘dead’ spots and to monitor which devices and users are connected to their network at any given moment. Customers can also share their home WiFi password with guests with a single click via WhatsApp or a dedicated QR code and restrict access to the internet at specific times of the day.

While on the go, the app displays Liberty’s WiFi hotspots on a map so that customers can automatically and seamlessly connect to WiFi services at no extra cost. The app also provides instructions on how to install and connect WiFi modems and boosters.

Liberty Global’s mobile customers can use the app to check, in real time, their data usage and remaining minutes and text messages from their monthly bundle allocation.

“From installing their router to checking their monthly mobile usage, this app really puts our customers in the driver’s seat. Providing all these features within one innovative app means our customers get the most out of all the services we offer, both in and out of the home. This is just the beginning and we will continue to add even more features and functionality to ensure the app provides a range of great, up-to-date connectivity services,” said Doron Hacmon, chief product officer, Liberty Global.
