Telefónica launches convergent services with advanced TV functionality

MovistarTelefónica is to make its Movistar+ pay TV offering available to all customers of its Movistar Fusión bundled offering of broadband and telephony services and is launching new advanced TV features as part of the change.

The operator is building two offerings based around its Movistar Fusión #0 flagship entertainment offering and its Movistar Fusión Series service, available as of Sunday.

The operator is launching new functionality including network-based DVR, restart, seven-day catch-up, download and go and multiscreen access.

Telefónica is launching two options. Movistar Fusión #0 – the entry-level package – will be available for €45, offering 50Mbps internet, mobile voice and data and a TV package comprising o, eSports, digital-terrestrial channels and 500 on-demand titles. An option with 300Mbps broadband access via fibre will be available for €57.

The second, more premium, offering, Movistar Fusión Series, will be available for €60 or €72 depending on the broadband option chosen. This will include mobile telephony and broadband, along with a TV option that includes #0, eSports, DTT channels, Movistar Series and Movistar Series Extra, Fox and Fox Life, and over 8,000 VOD titles. Additional titles available include the seventh season of Game of Thrones.

Telefónica said it would offer all series on the Movistar Series offering on-demand. The #0 channel will meanwhile become the home of Telefónica’s own forthcoming originals including Velvet Colección, La Zona, Vergüenza and La Peste, which will be available to subscribers to the #0 offering in addition to Movistar Fusión Series.

“Two years ago, when we acquired Canal_ we set the objective of being the reference brand for TV and the guaranteed best connectivity inside and outside the home,” said Telefónica España president Luis Miguel Gilpérez.

“This promise has made us leaders in the market, and today we were taking the definitive step. All our customers are going to enjoy the best TV experience in this country. We have moved from being a telco to being an audiovisual entertainment platform for our customers. In line with this strategy, today we are presenting a new offering that is adapted to the requirements of the market, which places value on our drive to offer the best content, original production, #0 and Movistar+ series, and that improves the TV experience thanks to a new interface and new functionalities.”
