YouTube’s new ‘dark theme’

YouTube has started to preview a revamped design, which includes a ‘dark theme’ that turns the background of the site black.

Announcing the new look, YouTube said that the key principles of the design are simplicity, consistency and beauty.

‘Dark theme’ is designed to cut down on glare and turns the background dark throughout a user’s entire YouTube experience.

YouTube said the site design is also built on a faster framework called Polymer that allows for quicker feature development from now on.

The redesign is available now to a small group of people around the world so that YouTube can get feedback.

“While we hope you’ll love what we’ve been working on, we’re also really excited to involve the YouTube community so we can make the site even better before sharing it more broadly,” said YouTube product manager, Brian Marquardt.
