US-based media player service Plex has acquired streaming news service Watchup.
In a blog post announcing the deal, Plex said that it aimed to offer news “in a holistic manner” as part of its service, following the launch of its new Plex DVR a few months ago.
“Why Watchup? Well, they have a super talented engineering group who has built a remarkable system with advanced machine learning, which processes local, national, and international news to generate a feed personalised just for you,” said Plex.
“Just as importantly, they have partnered with over 150 publishers, including a number who have invested in the company.”
Through its Plex Media Server software and its Plex apps, the company lets users stream their video, music, and photo collections to phones, tablets, streaming devices, games consoles, and smart TVs.
