BBC reports record international web traffic

BBCBBC.com, the UK corporation’s international news platform, received record web traffic in 2016.

The BBC said that the site and its related news and sport apps generated more than 15 billion page views across the year and received 98 million unique browsers each month.

June 24, the day of the UK’s European Union referendum result, was the site’s busiest single day, with 114 million page views and 21 million unique browsers.

The news came as the BBC said that it will have an expanded, permanent ‘Reality Check’ team dedicated to creating content that examines the facts behind stories, as part of its efforts to fight ‘fake news’.

The commercially funded BBC.com news is available around the world and is operated by BBC Global News Ltd.
