US video-on-demand revenues increased by 6% in 2016, returning to growth after dropping nearly 3% in 2015, according to Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) stats.
The US industry association said that subscription video-on-demand spend was up around 22% compared to 2015, and in the fourth quarter was up by around 26%.
Total US home entertainment spending topped US$18 billion (€17 billion) for the year, while electronic sell-through spending rose 5% with movie sales proving especially strong, according to the DEG.
On the device front, HD TV penetration stood at more than 112 million households, of which 16 million were 4K Ultra HD TV homes.
“4K Ultra HD products debuted strongly in their first year. Some 10 million 4K Ultra HD TVs shipped, representing nearly US$10 billion, and are projected to reach 30 million units by the end of 2017,” said the DEG, citing stats from the Consumer Technology Association.
The numbers come from the preliminary cover note to the DEG’s 2016 Home Entertainment Report. Final numbers are due to be published later this month.
