The number of connected home appliance shipments will climb from just 17 million in 2016 to 202 million globally by 2021, according to Juniper Research.
The new study claims that as the additional cost of including basic connectivity is now less than US$10 (€9), hardware manufacturers will increasingly introduce the functionality into items including fridges, ovens and washing machines.
Juniper ranks the current leaders in the connected appliance space, from first to fifth, as Samsung, GE Appliances, LG Electronics, Bosch and Electolux.
