Discovery Communications has appointed the co-CEO of C-SPAN, Susan Swain, to its board, effective December 2016.
Swain joined C-SPAN, a public service network that airs public affairs programming and televises US federal government proceedings, in 1982 and took the co-CEO role in 2012.
She manages content strategy and programming for C-SPAN’s TV channels, websites and radio station and also handles marketing and education outreach efforts.
Robert Miron, chairman of Discovery’s board of directors, said that Swain’s expertise “will add tremendous value to Discovery’s board as we look to move the company forward in this time of enormous change and opportunity across the industry.”
David Zaslav, president and CEO, Discovery Communications, said: “We welcome her unique perspective, governance and operating expertise as Discovery continues to grow and diversify in new content and digital platforms around the world.”
Swain also serves as an officer of National Cable Satellite Corporation, is a trustee of the C-SPAN Education Foundation and a board member of the National Press Foundation.
