The QYou moves into China

qyouYouth broadcaster The QYou has entered the Chinese market through a partnership with China Entertainment Group.

The deal will see the companies launch a curated ‘best of YouTube’ content channel on Chinese online video platforms including Weibo, YouKu, LeTV and Tencent.

The QYou described China Entertainment Group as “the perfect partner to localise The QYou”, with curation to be performed by experienced Chinese video producers and content translated into Mandarin.

“Launching a ‘best of YouTube’ channel in China with China Entertainment Group is a win-win for everyone involved, from the distribution platforms like YouKu and Tencent who want views, to Chinese consumers who want access to a greater variety of content,” said Bob Reid, vice-president of business development and sales at The QYou.

“Our goal is to understand our audiences’ preferences so that we can provide them with the most engaging and relevant content,” said Coca Xie, founder of China Entertainment Group.

“Chinese millennial audiences today thirst for western short-form content, often difficult to view inside of China. Using The QYou’s services enables us to offer viewers a range of content at any time and on any device, a deciding factor behind our decision to establish a partnership.”

The QYou is a linear TV channel and video-on-demand offering around short-form video content sourced from the web. Last month the service also announced its Polish launch after striking a deal with Play Poland’s recently launched OTT service, Play NOW.
