Portuguese cable and pay TV operator Nos has struck a strategic partnership with Chinese equipment supplier Huawei under which the pair will work on joint projects in the areas of networks and technology, including the video solutions business.
Nos CEO Miguel Almeida and Huawei’s Portuguese country director, Chris Lu, signed memorandum of understanding to mark the inauguration of the partnership in Shenzen at the end of last week.
Nos has already used Huawei for mobile technology. The group’s 3G pilot, launched in 2005, was the second European project Huawei had been involved in.
The pair will now extend their relationship to cover the Internet of Things, next-generation broadband, video services, software-defined networking, virtualization, data centres and integrated business solutions.
Almeida said that Nos and Huawei had enjoyed a good relationship for a long time and that the joint development of innovative solutions would enhance the competitive positions of both companies.
