UPC Czech and Slovak units add Discovery HD channels

discovery turbo xtraLiberty Global-owned service providers UPC Czech Republic and UPC Slovakia, which operate as a combined unit, have added three channels from Discovery to their offerings.

Customers in the two countries can view Discovery Science HD, discovery Turbo Extra HD and Discovery IDx HD.

The additions take the number of HD channels to which UPC subscribers in the Czech Republic have access to over 60, a third of the total channels available via digital cable.

Motorsports and Extreme Sports-focused Discovery Turbo Extra HD will replace Discovery World, which is ceasing to broadcast in the Czech Republic, in both countries.

Discovery Science HD covers science and technology while Discovery IDx HD focuses on true crime. The latter replaces Discovery ID, which is available in English only.   

In Slovakia, UPC has also added Modern Times Group’s Viasat Nature HD and Viasat History HD which will share channel slot 171 on its EPG, available to Plus and Exclusive customers. The additions take the number of HD services available to Slovakian subscribers to 41 out of a total 170 or so channels.

UPC Czech Republic and Slovakia CEO Martin Miller said that the extension of the programming offer showed the operator’s commitment to providing a diverse and rich channel offering.
