Eutelsat takes stake in V-Nova

Satellite operator Eutelsat has taken a minority stake in compression specialist V-Nova.

The pair plan to enter into a commercial partnership focused on satellite video transmission, with Eutelsat exclusively distributing V-Nova’s Perseus compression solutions in jointly defined offers for markets that the pair have agreed to collaborate in.

The two companies said that the decision reflected Eutelsat’s commitment to support broadcaster’ transition to HD and UHD TV services.

V-Nova says that its Perseus compression technology enables much more efficent compression than is available from MPEG technologies, including HEVC, today.

Eutelsat has already used Perseus to deliver live 4K contribution of football matches during the UEFA Euro 2016 championship.
