Portuguese cable and pay TV operator Nos has launched its own TV channel, which will house a mix of music, movies, sport, kids and special events content.
Nos said that the channel, Canal Nos, would serve as a platform to showcase its innovation in new products and services. The channel will serve as the official channel of the Nos Alive 2016 festival, which runs over this weekend from the Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Lisbon. Nos will offer coverage of concerts and events around the festival in partnership with state broadcaster RTP.
Separately, Nos has struck a partnership with cable operator Cabovisão to share sports content. The pair have agreed to share coverage of live sporting events and sport channels, including the channels of individual football clubs.
The move is latest by Nos to ensure that it can provide a complete sports offering, following problems over reciprocity of sports rights, particularly between Nos and Portugal Telecom.
In May, Nos struck a similar deal with Vodafone Portugal to ensure that football matches shown on one platform could also be seen on the other.
