Orange Moldova is to acquire local cable operator Sun Communications.
Orange, which operates mobile services in Moldova, said that the acquisition would give the ability to prepare for convergence, providing pay TV, fixed and mobile internet and telephony services.
Sun Communications operates in the capital Chisinau and the cities of Balti and Cahul with an offer that includes 172 TV channels, including 25 HD services. The company has about 100,000 active custoemrs. Sun also provides voice and internet services to 38,000 customers, offering internet speeds of up to 300Mbps.
Orange Moldova is the country’s largest mobile player, with about two million customers and a 4G network that covers 84% of the population.
The deal is subject to approval by the Moldovan competition regulator.
