Google Home, the small smart home device that Google plans to launch later this year, will be based on the same technology as its existing Chromecast HDMI dongle, according to US online news service The Information.
According to The Information, citing an unnamed source, Google Home will be based on the same ARM processor and WiFi chip as Chormecast.
Google Home will add a microphone and speaker to existing Chromecast technology, enabling users to give voice commands to the device to play music or manage a number of other in-home devices.
The device will be able to ‘talk’ to Chromecast, enabling voice-commanded playing of videos on the TV.
Google Home is being led by Mario Querioz, the Google executive behind Chromecast.
