ProSiebenSat.1 launching FTA documentary channel

German commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 is to launch a new free-to-air factual channel, Kabel Eins Doku, in the second half of this year.

The channel, targeted at a male audience aged 40-64, will be headed by the broadcaster’s former senior vice-president of new channel development, Thorsten Pütsch.

Pütsch said that Kabel Eins Doku would be the first pure free-to-air documentary channel in Germany and would focus on history, true crime, nature and technology programmes.

ProSiebenSat.1 Germany chief executive Wolfgang Link said that the launch was in line with the broadcaster’s strategy of expanding its portfolio of targeted channels to strengthen its position in a market that was becoming increasingly fragmented.
