Liberty Global is to make a US$1 million (€870,000) donation to the campaign to keep the UK in the EU, according to press reports.
According to the Financial Times, the donation matches a recent commitment by Goldman Sachs to support the Remain campaign. Tom Mockridge, the CEO of Liberty Global’s UK subsidiary Virgin Media, has been a vociferous supporter of the Remain campaign, which is allowed under electoral law to raise a maximum of £7 million in the 10 weeks between now and the day of the referendum on whether the country will remain in the EU.
The donation is subject to approval by Liberty Global’s shareholders.
