DISH adds ultra HD Netflix support

Dish network hopper 3US satellite TV operator DISH has added 4K, ultra high-definition support for Netflix content on its Hopper 3 DVR.

The Netflix app has been available on the Hopper 3 set-top box since February, but access now includes Netflix’s original such as Marvel’s Daredevil and House of Cards in 4K.

The Netflix content joins DISH’s inventory of ultra HD content, which includes a slate of 4K programming from Sony, The Orchard and Mance Media.

“Netflix is actively taking steps to broaden the availability of Ultra HD content, with plans to provide more than 600 hours by the end of this year,” said DISH executive vice-president and chief technology officer, Vivek Khemka.

“As the cost of 4K TVs continues to decrease, consumer adoption of and interest in ultra HD technology becomes more widespread. We’re making every effort to provide our Hopper 3 customers with additional access to 4K programming as it’s made available.”

All 4K content offered on DISH can be viewed on any 4K-compatible TV-set, however Netflix recommends internet speeds of at least 25 Mbps to stream ultra HD programming.
