NPD: 52% of US millennials make video calls

Snapchat_logoSome 52% of US smartphone users aged 18-34 now use their smartphones to conduct video calls, a 10-point year-on-year increase, according to NPD.

The research firm’s Connected Intelligence Application and Convergence Report also found that millennials are using computers less often for web browsing, email, shopping, music, posting pictures or videos, and for using Facebook and Twitter.

“Video calling, posting and watching video are more common among millennial smartphone users than among any other age group,” said John Buffone, NPD executive director, industry analyst, connected intelligence.

“As smartphones increase in size, millennials are leading increases in activity, thus also leading the migration towards larger data plans.”

The news came as mobile messaging service Snapchat launched a major new update, Chat 2.0, which features host of new features – including video and audio calls.
