Apple TV remains the European leader in streaming devices but Google’s Chromecast is fast catching up, according to an analysis by Dataxis.
According to the research group, Apple TV has 23 million active users globally, including seven million in Europe.
Google’s Chromecast launched in Europe last year and had an installed European base of about 4.5 million at the end of the year, according to Dataxis.
Amazon Fire TV became available in countries including Germany, Austria and the UK at the end of last year and so far has only a small European base of users, according to the research group.
Roku, the most popular platform in the US, had nine million users globally last year, but has a much smaller international presence, with devices available in the UK, Ireland and France only in Europe.
