Canal+ secures French League Cup rights for four seasons

Canal PlusCanal+ Group has secured rights to the country Coupe de la Ligue football tournament for the next four seasons.

From August 2016 the pay TV operator will air all matches from the competition’s seven rounds along with highlights. Public broadcaster France Télévisions will simultaneously air one match a day free-to-view.

“Canal+ Group is strengthening its partnership with the Professional Football League,” said Thierry Cheleman, the group’s head of sports.

“From 2016, we will air the totality of the LFP’s competitons with the three best fixtures fdrom Ligue 1, the big match from Ligue 2 and now the complete line-up of matches of the Coupe de la League. This is excellent news.”

The win provides some good news on the football front for the pay broadcaster, which recently lost its hold on English Premier League rights to cable and mobile telecom operator Altice.
