US streaming service Netflix is continuing its push into original feature films with Girlfriend’s Day, a black comedy starring Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk.
The film follows a put-upon greetings card writer (Odenkirk) who is framed for murder.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news. It said that Girlfriend’s Day will have a day and date release on the Netflix streaming service, as well as in movie theatres, using the same release model as Beasts of No Nation.
That movie generated poor box office numbers, but the cinema release means it iseligible for awards including the Oscars.
Netflix has been moving into original features and ordering these alongside its original series. Its features move has been followed by Amazon and smaller SVOD services such as Icflix.
