The apps which are available for Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic will provide breaking news alerts and special coverage notifications with a curated home screen which highlights top stories. The apps will provide 24-hour access to live video and background audio streaming with a personal newsfeed area for shows, topics and saved stories which can be shared on social media, according to Al Jazeera.
“Our new mobile and tablet apps will make it easier for our audiences to get content that is important and relevant for them. With just one click, you can get quick access to your favourite topics, shows, and any saved articles from your personalised news feed,” said Ibrahim Hamid, Director of Enterprise and Digital Platforms at Al Jazeera Media Network.
“We have built a totally new experience from the ground up in these feature-rich apps. From the revamped and curated home screen, with the new video experience on the enhanced story pages, we are now bringing a new and compelling experience to our audiences and are committed to regular updates with new features. These apps complement our growing portfolio of digital products such as our Al Jazeera English Apple TV app that we launched last week and you will see a growing convergence in experiences in the future releases of our products.”
Imad Musa, Manager of Al Jazeera English Online said: “These apps put the user in the driver’s seat. For example, if your favorite content from Al Jazeera is our weekly TV show on the media such as the Listening Post, now you can get a notification whenever a new episode is online; or if you like to follow the writers on our opinion pages, with one click, the app saves everything in that section for offline reading. Our audience has been very generous with feedback over the years, and we took their input into serious consideration with the new app. The result is an app that is simple and gets you to the Al Jazeera content that you are looking for quickly, whether video or text.”
