Film Detective launches OTT channel

Movie distributor and restoration specialist The Film Detective has launched a classic movies service on the Pluto TV OTT platform.

The Film Detective Classic Movies Channel said it will have hundreds of features at launch and titles include Francis Ford Coppola’s Dementia 13 and Shirley Temple movie The Little Princess.

Massachusetts-based The Film Detective has a 3,000-hour library and has previously focused on DVD and Blu-ray distribution of its classic titles as well as licensing titles to channels including PBS and Turner Classic Movies.

Company founder Phil Hopkins said: “We are extremely excited to be part of Pluto TV, which has assembled an outstanding content and editorial team that is passionate about OTT programming. We look forward to introducing many of our newly restored HD classic movies to a wider audience in the OTT space.”

Pluto, which completed a US$13 million funding round last year, aggregates content and packages it into a channels that are delivered via its OTT service.

Speaking about the addition of the new classic films channels, Pluto cofounder Ilya Pozin said: “This channel will make a great addition to our free TV service that already has over 100 channels of news, music, sports, comedy, viral videos and more entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.”
