UK commercial broadcaster ITV has extended its playout contract with Ericsson for its portfolio of channels until 2024.

Under the new deal, Ericsson will continue to provide playout services for ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITV HD, CITV and their associated regional variants, as well as providing services for ITV’s most recent TV channels – ITV Encore and ITVBe.

Ericsson claims that as part of the contract it has designed, built and integrated a “state-of-the-art” scalable simulcast platform for ITV. It said that the modular infrastructure will give ITV the flexibility to deliver new services and easily launch existing services onto new platforms.

“ITV operates one of the most complex broadcast operations in the world. For many years, we have worked together successfully to deliver dynamic commercial channels, while reducing cost, complexity, risk and increasing efficiencies,” said Ericsson’s head of broadcast and media services, Thorsten Sauer.

“We look forward to strengthening our relationship further and helping ITV to continue delivering world-class television on every platform and every screen across the UK for years to come.”
