Portuguese pay TV channel provider Lusomundo is to launch an enhanced HBO offering next month after striking a new output deal with the US premium programmer.
Lusomundo, which already licenses HBO series in Portugal via its TV Cine and TV Séries channels, has struck a new deal to offer a range of HBO content, Digital TV Europe has learned. Lusomundo licenses channels to operators including sister company Nos, Altice’s Meo and cable operator Cabovisão. Details of the latest deal are expected to be made public in the next few days.
Lusomundo revealed that it was planning to offer additional HBO content by launching a website, hboportugal.pt, featuring the HBO brand and a link to a registration page and by launching a teaser channel on YouTube.
The marketing campaign led to speculation that the US premium broadcaster was planning to launch its own branded service in the country. However, HBO, when contracted, said that it was “not launching in Portugal”.
