CSA calls for HD candidates

French media regulator the CSA has launched a new appeal for candidates to launch HD TV services on the country’s DTT platform.

The call for submissions is linked to the French government’s decision to allocate part of the 700MHz band used for DTT broadcasting to mobile services, leading to a switch to MPEG-4 broadcasting for the platform as a whole.

The CSA anticipates that this transition will be accompanied by a move to HD services as the norm. With this appeal, the CSA is addressing operators of existing channels as well as potential new entrants. The deadline for submissions is September 8.
