Telefónica doubles TV base over year

Telefonica buildingTelefónica nearly doubled its TV base in the year to June, ending the quarter with eight million TV customers overall after notching up 263,000 net organic customers.

TV growth was driven by Telefónica Brasil, with 61,000 additions, and Telefónica Hispanoamérica, with 112,000 additions.

In Spain, Telefónica had 2.2 million TV customers at the end of the quarter, up 1.8 times year on year. Net additions, at 90,000, were lower than in the first quarter as a result of industrial action and higher churn.

The telco had 5.4 million fibre customers globally at the end of June, up 4.6 times in a year, with growth driven by 160,000 additions in Spain and 131,000 in Brazil. Retail broadband customers numbered 20.8 million, 2% up in organic terms and 18% up overall.

In Spain, Movistar Fusión had 3.9 million customers at the end of June, representing 77% of broadband customers.

Globally, Telefónica posted revenues for €11.876 billion for the quarter, up 4.4%. Video revenue sstood at €541 million, up 34.8% in organic terms.
