The chairman of the board of directors for Swiss service provider Sunrise, Dominik Koechlin, has died unexpectedly aged 56.

In a statement, Sunrise said that Koechlin passed away after “a rapid deterioration in his state of health on 12 July, 2015.”

Sunrise vice-chairman Lorne Somerville said: “Dominik’s death is a tragic loss for all of us. He was the first independent member to join the board when CVC made its investment in Sunrise in October 2010.  He has been a constant source of wisdom, generosity and kindness throughout his time with us. We offer his family our deepest and most sincere condolences.”

The Sunrise board has appointed Somerville as its new chairman for the remaining term of office until the next ordinary general meeting of shareholders. Current board member Peter Schöpfer has been appointed as the new vice-chairman, while current board member Jesper Ovesen joins the nomination and compensation committee of the board.
