Broadcaster Mediaset España has struck an agreement with media group Godó to acquire a 40% stake in Catalan regional channel provider Emissions Digitals de Catalunya, operator of the 8tv general entertainment channel.
According to local reports, the deal has already secured the approval of local media regulator the Conseil de l’Audiovisual de Catalunya and Spanish competition regulator the CNMC.
Mediaset said the deal would enable it to promote and develop commercial TV in Catalonia.
Emissions Digitals de Catalunya holds the licence to operator a digital multiple with coverage across Catalonia, which broadcasts channels RAC 105 TV and Barça TV.
Mediaset operates six free channels in Spain – Telecinco, Cuatro, Dívinity, Energy, Boing and FDF.
