Vodafone names Springer chief to board

Vodafone Group has named Axel Springer chairman and CEO Mathias Döpfner to its board as a non-executive director, while Luc Vandevelde, is to step down.

Döpfner wil join the board on April 1. In addition to serving as CEO of Axel Springer since 2002, he is a member of the board of Time Warner and Warner Music Group.

Vodafone Group chairman Gerard Kleisterlee said: “Mathias is one of the leading visionaries of the global media industry who has led his business through a highly successful transition into digital and international markets. I am delighted to welcome him to the board.”

Vandevelde will step down at the Vodafone annual general meeting on July 28. At that time, Philip Yea will be appointed as Senior Independent Director, while Val Gooding will chair the Remuneration Committee, and become a member of the Nominations and Governance Committee, with effect from the same date.
