Golden Globes generate 2.6 million Tweets

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards generated 2.6 million related Tweets globally during the show’s live telecast, according to Twitter statistics.

The microblogging network said that the moments in the show that generated most Twitter conversation were: when Glory, a song from the film Selma, won Best Original Song; when Matt Bomer won Best Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series for The Normal Heart; and when Billy Bob Thornton won Best Actor in a Mini-Series for his role in Fargo.

Nielsen Twitter TV ratings logged 1.89 million Tweets related to NBC’s broadcast of the Golden Globes, sent from 556,000 unique Twitter accounts. It said these were seen 332 million times by a unique audience of 10.4 million people.

According to Twitter stats, last summer’s football World Cup Final final generated 32.1 million Tweets. At the final whistle, 618,725 related Tweets per minute were logged – a Twitter record for an event.
