German internet users turning away from TV

bitkomOne third of German users of video streaming services have replaced classic TV entirely or partially by the use of streaming services, according to research for German technology industry association Bitkom.

According to the research, which surveyed the habits of those aged 14 and above, 44% of streaming media users watch less TV via cable and satellite, while 18% would consider abandoning conventional TV entirely.

The research found that 37% of streaming media users used the internet rather than TV to view live events as well as on-demand content.

Overall, the research found that 73% of internet users consumed video over the web, with only 27% downloading videos to watch later.

The research was carried out ahead of next week’s Bitkom Trendkongress in Berlin.
