Amazon has launched its Prime Instant Video service in Austria.
The e-commerce giant has rolled out the Prime premium delivery service in the country, which now comes bundled with the Prime Instant Video service – previously the SVoD service was marketed separately under the LoveFilm brand.
While Amazon’s chief streaming rival, Netflix, has aggressively expanded in Europe and internationally, Amazon has limited its video service to the US and the UK and Ireland and Germany.
The Austrian launch see susbs offered the Prime service for €49 a year. Amazon offers a thirty day free trial. The subscription gives premium shipping, a free e-book per month and a range of TV series and movies on the Prime Instant Video service.
Amazon said the Austrian service will have all of its original TV series as well as series including The Walking Dead, Homeland and The Big Bang Theory.
“The most common question we are asked by our customers in Austria is, when we bring the Prime Offer to Austria,” said Xavier Garambois, vice president of European retail from Amazon. “We are pleased to now offer our customers to be able to offer the benefits of Prime also in Austria: Whether your entertainment thanks to exclusive movies and series or 2-day delivery guarantee even with last minute Christmas gifts. ”
Amazon has never disclosed how many Prime subscribers it has beyond saying there are ‘millions’. Like Netflix, it also never discloses any viewing numbers for its streaming service although Nielsen said this week that it plans ton start measuring these in the US.
