Satellite operator SES will stake its claim to the first live ultra HD satellite broadcast by transmitting coverage of the US rock band Linkin Park’s concert at the O2 World in Berlin on November 19.
The concert will be broadcast via the Astra satellite position at 19.2° East, encoded in 10-bit HEVC/H.265 in 4K resolution at 50fps.
The broadcast, which will kick off at 21:00, will be receivable via Samsung’s 2014 range of Ultra HD TVs. The broadcast will be managed by SES subsidiary SES Platform Services.
“We are honoured that Samsung has chosen to work with SES to broadcast a live concert exclusively on our demo channel, as this demonstrates Samsung’s faith in our satellites and our technical capabilities,” said Ferdinand Kayser, chief commercial officer at SES.
“The successful broadcast of a live concert will mark another milestone in the development of the Ultra HD eco system and power the way for more live content to be broadcast live via satellite in the coming years.”
