Disney adds Movies Anywhere access to Android devices


Disney Movies Anywhere - AndroidDisney has made its Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) app available on Android devices for the first time. 

Disney Movies Anywhere first launched in February and is a digital movie service that lets US consumers buy, manage and watch Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies across multiple devices and platforms.

Previously, the service was only available on iOS mobile devices via Apple’s iTunes App Store, with the new deal marking a rights share between tech giants Apple and Google.

“More than 400 digital titles are available in DMA, and as part of today’s launch, for a limited time, DMA users who connect a new retailer account to their DMA account will get a free copy of Disney’s 2012 hit Wreck-It Ralph added to their DMA locker,” said Disney.

DMA is designed as a “one-stop shop” for viewers to access their Disney digital movie collection, with users able to buy movies them via their connected retailer accounts and redeem digital movie codes that come with Disney Blu-ray or DVD purchases. The service also lets users access exclusive short-form content.

Disney and Apple have long had close links, with Disney CEO Robert Iger holding a seat on Apple’s board. Disney’s 2006 buyout of Pixar in 2006 also made Apple co-founder Steve Jobs Disney’s largest shareholder.
