CSA censures Canal+ for breaking ad rules

French media regulator the CSA has issued a warning to Canal+ for exceeding the amount of time it is allowed to devote to advertising.

According the regulator, the pay TV broadcaster’s flagship channel, Canal+, exceeded the average daily time it is allowed to devote to advertising on two occasions last year, while Canal+ Sport exceeded its quota on four occasions.

The CSA also said that Canal+, Canal+ Décalé and Canal+ Sport had each on one occasion exceeded the amount of advertising allowed in any given hour, while free-to-air digital-terrestrial channel D8 had done this on four occasions.

Under the CSA’s rules, channels are not allowed to exceed an average of nine minutes per hour of advertising in a given day, or 12 minutes in any given hour.
