MTG’s Viaplay signs exclusive VoD deal with Nickelodeon

MTG’s Viaplay streaming and on-demand service has secured the exclusive video-on-demand rights for Nickelodeon programmes in the Nordics.

The deal, which goes live today and runs until 2020, will give all Viaplay subscribers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland access to animations and live action series from Viacom’s Nickelodeon.

MTG claimed the deal will make Viaplay’s kids offering “the strongest in the region,” with viewers able to access thousands of episodes and movies every month.

“Nickelodeon is a leading producer of kids and tween content. With this agreement and the other great kids and tween content we offer, we place Viaplay in first position when it comes to content aimed towards the younger audience,” said Jakob Mejlhede, MTG’s senior vice president of acquisitions and programming.

Andrea Sahlgren, Viacom’s senior vice-president, general manager Nordic added: “This is a very important step for Nickelodeon and Viacom. It is a unique deal and it will strengthen Viacom’s position in the Nordics.”

All the Nick titles will be available to watch across PCs, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, set-top-boxes, and games consoles – including when a user is offline as part of Viaplay’s download-to-go service.
