National Geographic has reached a milestone 50 million global fans on social network Facebook.
The countries where National Geographic has notched up the most ‘likes’ are India, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt and the US. The most common languages used by National Geographic Channel Facebook fans are English, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese and French.
“This 50 million-strong Facebook community allows us to keep all of our fans engaged at both the global and the local levels in all of the entertainment and information that National Geographic Channels offer. It’s a whole different level of experience with one of the best know media brands in the world,” said Liz Dolan, chief marketing officer, National Geographic Channels International.
The 50 million figure comes after National Geographic Channels International redesigned its global Facebook fan pages to present a single brand, with National Geographic Channel’s Facebook fans now automatically assigned to one of 38 unique regional or country feeds based on their location.
This ensures users receive the most relevant TV schedule and show content information in their timelines based on their country, according to the firm.
Globally, National Geographic Channel – including NGC US, which is a joint venture of NGV and Fox Cable Networks Group – is available in more than 440 million homes in 171 countries and 45 languages.
