Under the terms of the partnership deal, Netflix’s app will be available on Deutsche Telekom’s Entertain IPTV platform, with the service to be added to all Entertain set-top boxes in the coming weeks.
The rollout comes a day after Netflix launched in France, where it has signed a deal with Bouygues Telecom. Netflix’s service will be available on Bouygues’ Bbox platform from November.
Netflix in Germany, as in France, will be priced at €7.99 per month. The German version will air full seasons of Netflix original series that have not aired in the country before, such as prison comedy-drama Orange Is the New Black and animated comedy Bojack Horseman.
Other series that will be available for the first time in Germany on the service include the TV shows Fargo and From Dusk Till Dawn.
At launch, Netflix will host German series including Stromberg, Pastewka and Der Tatortreiniger, as well as films like Keinohrhasen and its sequel Zweiohrküken. The film version of Stromberg will also be available later this year.
“We are proud to bring the future of television to Germany,” said Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings. “German consumers now have instant access to a great selection of shows and movies, anytime and anywhere.”
Other titles that will be available on Netflix Germany include films like 21 Jump Street, The Hangover and Inception, and TV series like House of Cards, The Killing and Hemlock Grove. It also has the rights to earlier seasons of Breaking Bad, Pretty Little Liars and Sons of Anarchy.
Netflix was first reported by the domestic press to have been holding partnership talks with Deutsche Telekom back in June.
The service is due to now go live in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg as part of its current batch of launches.
