DNA cloud TV service passes milestone

DNAFinnish telecom operator DNA’s Welho MatkaTV cloud TV service has now passed the milestone of 100,000 subscribers, following the addition of sports content from commercial broadcasters MTV and Viasat.

DNA has also made MatkaTV available via the Google Chromecast HDMI dongle, enabling Chromecast users to view cloud-delivered recordings and TV channels on the main screen.

Live streams of up to 17 channels are available via the cloud service, including seven free-to-air channels available to all, five pay TV services from MTV and five pay TV services from Viasat. The service is based on Booxmedia’s cloud TV technology.

“MatkaTV is building up its popularity at an increasing rate. This enhances our view that the way television is viewed is changing at an extremely rapid pace. At home, people are taking advantage of HDTVs with enhanced picture quality and large displays, but they also want to have access to TV programmes outside their homes, viewing them with a mobile device suited for their needs. We want to support and develop this freedom of choice in a versatile manner,” says Jarno Haikonen, director, entertainment business, DNA.
