Over half of US consumers watch more than two hours of TV a day while 22% watch four or more hours, while almost half – 47% – use a second screen device while watching TV, according to a study by Civic Science.

The study, carried out in July – with second screen use measured from May to July – also found that 64% of US consumers says they use a smartphone and 43% own a tablet, while 28% own an e-reader.

The Civic Science study found that 43% of consumers never unplug all their technology devices, with 20% saying they unplugged them daily. A further 10% said they unplugged all technology devices a few times a week, compared with 17% who unplugged a few times a year.
