Channel 4-owned UK digital channel E4 has had its “biggest first half of a year ever” after increasing its core demographic of 16-34 year old viewers by 4% year-on-year.

Announcing the numbers, Channel 4 said its free-to-air, youth-skewing network now claims a 16-34 year-old audience share of 5.3%, establishing it as “the number one digital destination for young audiences” in the UK.

The network’s audience share among all TV viewers also increased by 3% compared to the first half of 2013, upping its audience share to 1.95%.

Among E4’s most popular shows were The Big Bang Theory, Made in Chelsea, New Girl, Hollyoaks and My Mad Fat Diary.

“From My Mad Fat Diary to The 100, E4’s mix of great British shows and the best of US series make it unmissable for young audiences,” said Channel 4’s chief creative officer, Jay Hunt.
