BBC Worldwide’s director of BBC Store steps down

Simon-DankerSimon Danker, director of BBC Worldwide’s BBC Store, is leaving the company after fourteen years.

Danker is in charge of BBC Store, Worldwide’s upcoming electronic sell through service, and was also director of global iPlayer, plans for which have been shelved.

Worldwide claims that his departure is not linked to digital boss Dan Heaf’s exit, which sparked a rejig of the digital division at Worldwide that saw Danker reporting in to Marcus Arthur, president, BBC Worldwide UK and ANZ.

A spokesman said that Danker will not be directly replaced, but it will recruit a global manager for BBC Store. The service will launch next year, with BBC and third-party content available to download to own.

Danker will leave Worldwide in the autumn.

Worldwide issued a statement: “Simon has played an instrumental role in building BBC Worldwide’s digital business, from launching the company’s digital syndication business, leading on significant partnerships with the likes of iTunes and YouTube and  more recently developing BBC Store which will launch in 2015.”
