Romtelecom selects Cisco to expand service to cable

Romanian telco Romtelecom has selected Cisco Videoscape to provide an end-to-end solution for the delivery of content to subscribers over cable, complementing its satellite service.

The new service will use Romtelecom’s existing satellite head-end, meaning it can expand its operations while using just one system for both cable and satellite.

“With the launch of this cable platform enhancement we are expanding our footprint to areas that were previously unable to access our services. With Videoscape we are able to do so with little impact on our operating expense, but with the ability to offer the same quality of experience irrespective of the delivery mechanism,” said Ciprian State, TV product development manager for Romtelecom and Cosmote Romania.

Yves Padrines, Cisco’s vice president, service provider video, EMEA added: “As a longstanding customer, we’re delighted to be working with Romtelecom on an initiative that has the potential to grow their business substantially. We look forward to our continued work together.”

Romtelecom has used a suite of solutions for its satellite platform since 2006 including Cisco VideoGuard conditional access and Cisco MediaHighway middleware.
